Get started with Assembly Atlas
Assembly Atlas turns your STEP assemblies into 3D parts catalogs your customers can take apart, search and order from, keeps owners coming back for service, and quotes machined and cut parts online. This guide covers everything your team sets up.
How it fits together#
- You export a STEP file of an assembly from your CAD system, plus a BOM if you have one.
- The catalog is built in the Assembly Atlas editor: every part named and numbered, priced, and exploded step by step. Import your BOM to fill in part numbers, descriptions and prices. We build it for you, or on the Catalog and Integrated plans your team can do it themselves.
- You publish it and paste the embed code on your website, link customers to the hosted catalog and parts portal, or put a QR code on the machine.
- Customers find their part by taking the model apart, searching or entering their serial number, in their own language, then add it to your store’s cart or send you a parts request with the part numbers filled in.
- Owners keep coming back: they register their machine, see what maintenance is due with the parts one click away, get reminder emails, see bulletins and recalls for their serial number, and file warranty claims with photos.
- You see what it’s worth in Results each month, and what you’re missing in Missed sales each week.

What to send us#
- A STEP file (
.stpor.step) of each assembly, exported as an assembly with its part structure, not merged into one solid. AP203, AP214 and AP242 all work. - A BOM as a CSV, if you have one: part number, description, price and material per part. See Import a BOM for the columns.
- Which parts are confidential, if any. They’re removed from what customers can load, not just hidden.
- The websites the catalog will be on, including any staging site.
Getting a good STEP export#
- Export the top-level assembly, so subassemblies come through as subassemblies.
- Give parts real names in CAD. A part named
PRT0042shows up as that until someone renames it. - Leave out simplified or envelope bodies, and suppress parts that aren’t in the product as shipped.
- If part numbers live in CAD properties rather than names, send the BOM as well; we match it to the parts.
